THE PROVEN SLII MODEL

The easy-to-understand, practical Situational Leadership II model helps a leader recognize the style which meets the needs of the employee. The model consists of four leadership styles and four development levels. During the training, leaders learn what the styles entail and when to use them.

S1: the enthusiastic beginner with limited experience requires a style with high direction and low support

S2: the disillusioned learner with a low to moderate competency requires a style with high direction and high support

S3: the cautious contributor with moderate experience and competency requires a style with low direction and high support

S4: the self-directed professional requires a style with low direction and low support

COMPANIES WHO ARE SUCCESSFULLY USING Situational Leadership II

An extensive study has shown that every employee needs direction and support, but the degree in which it should be provided is dependent upon the employee’s level of competency and commitment. In the results of the same study, it appears that only one percent of leaders use all four leadership styles, and that 54 percent use only one style, regardless of the situation and the employee. The result is that 50 percent of the time, leaders are not using the style which the employee needs.
